GeoData users/groups¶
GeoData has user groups to control access to catalog entries. For example, groups include:
Registered Users: Everyone who has a GeoData userid and password.
All: Anybody who can access the GeoData public website.
Org Unit Data Managers: All Org Unit metadata managers’ user accounts should have access to this group to create, edit, or delete metadata. If metadata/template/reusable components are going to be shared across Org Unit area of responsibility, we recommended assigning them to this group.
Your particular Org Unit group(s): Your particular Org Unit group is intended to be used for grouping records from their area of responsibility. We recommend metadata records created for your area of responsibility be assigned to your Org Unit group.
Transfer Ownership and Change Group¶
Note
This section was written for the LTAR network of research sites. Each site had a data manager responsible for creating catalog records for their location. Since this was the group in the pilot test of GeoData moving those metadata records between sites and the GeoData team was frequently done. This may not be necessary in normal production usage of GeoData .
If a data manager wants to “claim” metadata records written by NAL curators or another representative, follow these steps:
If you already know what record(s) you want to transfer and have them grouped, skip to step 5.
